This website is made by me, Emily, as a school project. For my project, I read The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank, and The Nazi Officer's Wife, by Edith Hahn Beer. Hope you enjoy these memoirs as much as I did!
Holocaust began roughly in 1933 and finally ended in 1945
Holocaust comes from the Greek word, "holokauston", which means "sacrifice by fire"
Not only did the Nazis target Jews like Edith and Anne, but also Gypsies, homosexuals, and other races and religions
11 million people were killed in the Holocaust, 6 million of them were Jews (2/3 of all Jews in Europe were killed)
The Nuremberg Laws prohibited interracial marriages and stripped Jews of their German citizenship on September 15, 1935
After 1939, Jews were forced to wear the yellow star of David on their clothing
Jews were sent to concentration camps and ghettos where they most certainly met death
Propaganda played a huge part in brainwashing the people into believing false things about the Jews through music, books, movies, newspapers, speeches etc. or lack thereof
Many scholars believe Kristallnacht (1938) to be the official starting point of the Holocaust
Gas chambers, executions, shooting lines, disease, and starvation were common ways to die for Jews
Auschwitz was the biggest concentration camp, killing over one million Jews
Some notorious people include Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Mengele, among others

The Nuremberg Laws told the citizens whether they were considered Aryan or Jewish based on their family background
